The Whispering Veil
A Powder & Cloak Reverie
by Rachel Scheff
Set within a storied Victorian home, The Veiled Aether reimagines the traditional powder and cloak room as an ethereal passage between past and present. A hand-painted mural washes the walls in moody watercolor landscapes, dissolving architecture into atmosphere. The effect is immersive and dreamlike—romantic, yet quietly dramatic.
A sculpted Viola marble console with carved legs anchors the space, paired with a richly veined marble countertop and brass fittings that nod to Victorian opulence. Underfoot, a whimsical black and marble checkered floor introduces movement and modernity, tempering the room’s historic bones with playful geometry.
Gilded frames, warm wood tones, and vintage lighting cast a soft gaslit glow, while curated details—art, textiles, and a sculptural coat stand—add narrative depth. Both functional and transportive, this intimate retreat invites guests to pause, reflect, and step briefly into a world veiled in shadow and light.
Special Thanks
Our deepest gratitude to the owners of All Natural Stone, Larry and Juan, as well as the entire ANS team, for their help and support throughout the project. A special thank you to Leandro Quintal for taking it to the next level with the stone fabrication and construction. We couldn’t do this without you. Shari Tipich for her incredible talent in creating hand-painted wall coverings for our beautiful space. A shout-out to Lonnie David for the seamless installation of our custom-fabricated wall coverings. Thank you to Premier Bath & Kitchen for taking care of all of our plumbing fixtures and coordinating with all the brands to ensure we had what we needed. And to all of our vendors who invested their time, effort, and products to help bring our vision to life. Without our gracious sponsors, we couldn’t do what we do! Lastly, I want to thank the showcase team who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make this show possible. We are incredibly proud and excited to be part of such a prestigious showcase that supports such a great cause.

Inspiration & Design Philosophy
Rachel Scheff’s work is rooted in atmosphere and emotion. Her inspiration often begins with art, light, and narrative—drawing from classical painting, historic architecture, and the layered patina of time. She is particularly inspired by the tension between old and new: the romance of Victorian detail juxtaposed with modern restraint and sculptural form.
Her design concept centers on creating immersive environments that feel transportive yet livable. Rather than designing rooms as isolated compositions, she approaches each space as a story unfolding through materiality, proportion, and light.
Rachel’s process is deeply material-driven and intuitive. She begins with a singular emotional anchor—often a piece of art, a stone slab, or a color study—and builds outward, layering texture, contrast, and architectural nuance. Every detail is considered for how it contributes to mood: how marble carries weight, how brass reflects warmth, how a mural softens edges.
The result is work that feels layered, soulful, and quietly dramatic—spaces that invite pause, curiosity, and a sense of wonder.

The Velvet Hat
by Liv Neverdal
Liv Neverdal is a 13-year-old, Los Angeles–based artist whose work reflects a sensitivity and artistic clarity beyond her years. Raised in a world of design and visual storytelling as the daughter of Rachel Scheff, Liv demonstrated a natural inclination toward drawing, honing her craft through years of study and quiet observation.
She makes her debut with her first commissioned piece, The Velvet Hat, created for her mother’s Powder and Cloak room in the 47 San Francisco Decorator Showcase.
Evoking Victorian romance and understated theatricality, the work transforms a simple object into something poetic and enduring.
