West Hollywood Glamour
This project was anything but ordinary. Our client—a well-traveled, cultured woman with more than 40 years of design experience—came to us with an incredible sense of style and a remarkable art collection. Having once maintained design offices around the world, she knew exactly what she wanted: a floor-to-ceiling remodel that would provide a refined backdrop for her collection and an elegant kitchen and bathroom of her dreams.
The residence itself was designed by John Elgin Woolf, the celebrated American architect known as the “Father of Hollywood Regency.
” Woolf’s work, beloved by his celebrity clientele, is defined by its glamorous architectural details. It was important for us to preserve these original elements while updating the kitchen and bathroom to meet our client’s vision and modern living needs.
Our inspiration came from a set of original Marilyn Monroe photographs that had been locked away in a vault for over 40 years. She wanted them displayed in her bathroom, the space where she began every morning with a bath. Since she didn’t shower, moisture wasn’t a concern—making this bold design choice both safe and spectacular.
The bathtub became the room’s focal point, set against a dramatic bookmatched white Calacatta marble wall. The crown jewel of our vanity: a stunning Kallista faucet accented with black onyx handles. To bring a touch of jewelry-like detail to the cabinetry, we incorporated black blown-glass knobs from Italy, perfectly complementing the understated white cabinetry.
The result is a timelessly elegant space—an artful balance between architectural preservation, modern refinement, and the deeply personal style of a collector who knows beauty when she sees it.
